To be eligible for the VFA Program, candidates must meet the following criteria:

1. Military Rank Requirements

  • Applicants must have held or currently hold the rank of E-7, E-8, or E-9 in any branch of the U.S. Department of Defense.

 

  • Veterans of other ranks may be considered on a case-by-case basis, depending on leadership experience and demonstrated capabilities.

2. Educational Requirements

  • The candidate must have obtained at least a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution recognized by the Department of Education.

3. Service Record

  • Candidates must have a record of honorable service within the U.S. Armed Forces.

  • A current DD Form 214 must be submitted as part of the application to confirm discharge status.

4. Application Package

  • Application Form: All candidates must complete and submit the official application form along with a processing fee.

  • Background Check: A criminal background check will be required as part of the application process.

5. Written Statement

  • Candidates are required to submit a 5–7-page paper in APA format, detailing their desire to attend the program. The paper should reflect personal goals, the reasons for pursuing the program, and how they believe their military background will contribute to their success in educational leadership.

  • The paper should specify the proposed location for the charter school, including the city, county, and state.

​

  • The candidate should include appendices containing student test scores, referred to as "assessment data" or "student performance data." These statistics are typically gathered from standardized state-administered tests that measure student proficiency across various subjects. Furthermore, the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), also known as "The Nation's Report Card," provides national, state, and district-level data on student academic achievement.

6. Letters of Recommendation

  • Three (3) letters of recommendation must be submitted as part of the application. These letters should be from individuals who are familiar with the applicant’s leadership abilities, work ethic, and potential for success in an educational leadership role.

7. Interview Process

  • All candidates must undergo a virtual and in-person interview as part of the selection process. This interview will assess the applicant’s leadership capabilities, commitment to educational excellence, and ability to contribute to the mission, vision, and goals of Life Education Solutions.

8. Program Commitment

  • Selected candidates will be expected to fully participate in the 120-day curriculum, which integrates business planning, leadership training, data-driven decision-making, and hands-on experiences in school management, faculty development, financial stability, and curriculum design.
